I love games, and I love Star Wars! The first Star Wars minis game I got into was Armada back in 2017. Since then I also got into Legion and now Shatterpoint. With all games I’ve played I love the competitive side. I hate when people set up “fun” and “competitive” as opposites because they don't have to be. For me they go together and I’m sure I’m not alone in that.

Updated November 2024

I’m a big Sabine fan. Well, more accurately I am a big fan of tagging my Star Wars terrain with graffiti. She’s also a very fun unit to paint! While she may not be spraying graffiti in Shatterpoint, Sabine does have a number of tools that can help you win, provided you stick her in the right team.

Sabine Wren, Spectre-5 is available in the Make the Impossible Possible squad box.

Main card

Well, 4pc is pretty standard for a secondary. The only note here is that Spectres are quite mix-and-matchable with both primaries being 8sp and all other units being 4pc, so that gives some flexibility when list building.

Abilities

Eight stamina is on the low end for a 4pc secondary, but Sabine does have protection to offset that. Her durability is decent, but I wouldn’t call it outstanding.

My Friends Make the Impossible Possible is the kind of ability I love on a secondary. I want to move people around! If Sabine dashes a Spectre the free hunker is nice, but don’t feel sad if you only target “normal” rebels with this ability.

I’m Gonna Go Add Some Fireworks to the Celebration is essentially jump-plus. The first part is optional and you can skip right to the jump part if you’d prefer. If you do use the explosion effect, note that it can target inactive objectives! On five dice you’re only expecting 1.5 expertise on average, so I wouldn’t plan for more than one damage with this effect. However, I have surprised myself with how often that one damage can come in handy, knocking off one critical unit so Sabine can go finish off another with her attack.

I Forged This Armor With My Family should look familiar because it’s basically Mandalorians Are Stronger Together except it also works with Spectres. I try to trigger this whenever possible since Sabine really likes to be focused …

Daughter of Mandalore is a bunch of good stuff! Seeing the Sharpshooter 2 I’m sure you can understand why I want to get that free focus when possible (and why I want to attack at range). Protection is always good, especially when defending against multiple chip shots. Finally, Sabine’s ability to jump instead of other moves can be incredibly clutch. Very few units will tell a friend to jump, but many will give out dashes or advances. If there isn’t an ingress around then this might not be super effective, but Sabine can bypass this restriction by turning other movement types into jumps and getting vertical to contest objectives. Also, you can’t natively choose to jump when doing a move action, but Sabine essentially can. That makes some activations easier if she starts engaged.

My Way

My Way gives me big Bo-Katan vibes. The defensive profile is the same as Bo (great expertise, not thrilled about four dice these days though) and the offensive expertise is identical for range and melee. If Sabine gets stuck punching it’s not the end of the world, but shooting with Sharpshooter 2 should yield good results more often. I wouldn’t say the tree is incredibly flashy, but easy-ish access to double shove or a big burst of damage is very solid. Against units with eight or less health, five damage and a strain will cause a lot of headaches, assuming Sabine doesn’t need the shove.

Synergy & Wrap-Up

+ Pros– Cons
Strong attack profile with solid combat treeOnly four defense dice
Unique vertical mobilityList building can be awkward

I don’t think Sabine is a standout in any one category, but she is very well-rounded. However, if I’m not triggering I Forged This Armor With My Family consistently then she can feel a bit underwhelming. I want to be putting Sabine in lists with a number of Spectres or Mandalorians. However, too many Mandalorians and she won’t have anyone to dash with her tactic, at which point she feels underwhelming again. As such, I find Sabine to be a bit restrictive in list building. Spectre-heavy rebel lists are an obvious choice, giving lots of triggers for both the tactic and reactive abilities. With the recent era update for Clan Kryze Mandalorians, I do think Mando + Sabine + Clan Kryze is an effective squad to pair with a pure rebel squad. Sabine and Hera combo particularly well since Sabine can move Hera and Hera provides extra defense dice at range, making Sabine a bit more durable. Units with Protection can also be annoying to shoot when backed up by big-time healing power.

Sabine is a very solid unit, doing a lot of what I want a secondary to do. She attacks well, moves a friend, and brings unique utility outside of her activation. However, fully unlocking her kit does require some thought at the list building stage, so she isn’t as easy to drop in to lists as some other secondaries.
