The much anticipated AdeptiCon came, and boy, what a loaded weekend. We got Clones, we got droids, we got rolly bois… we got General Grievous and his cape (or not… your call!). We also had two highly competitive Star Wars: Legion tournaments, in the Last Chance Qualifier and the High Command Invitational.
I will hit both of these in detail once the data has been parsed, and write more about my experience generally. However, I know the masses are always clamoring for the lists, so I wanted to briefly present the top 8 from High Command. Each of these gents won an invite to the first ever Legion Worlds at FFG Headquarters in Minnesota.
I also wanted to plug the High Command stream, which I would encourage watching if you have time. Most of these gents were featured (sometimes multiple times) over the course of the day: High Command vod
Presented with minimal commentary. I’m sure our friends at Impact X will get commentary from the owners of said lists and go deeper into the strategy behind them as per usual.
I was actually sort of impressed with the relative variety, compared to the LVO lists. There are certainly some common themes (5-6 corps, snipers.. mostly), but you can see more of each player’s personal style coming out in these lists.
1st: Davis Kingsley
This certainly is a list built around efficiency. Kingsley waits for you to make a mistake, and then just buries you in dice. I had the pleasure of being on the ass end of this in the final round.
2nd: Nick Freeman
Hey look, no Luke! I think this is one of those off-meta lists, like Lupo’s below, where it only works in the hands of the skilled pilot that created it. I’ve tried to run lists like this and they just feel like such a hot mess from a token mix perspective, but Nick likes to “ride the lightning” as LJ says.
Nick was making noise with both the hunter snipers and the full Z6 squads, which I think are both interesting things to explore, superfriends (Han/Leia/Chewie) aside. It’s hard to argue with results.
3rd: Kyle Dornbos
Yeah, I went with the pathfinders. Pretty boring otherwise. They actually were vary solid in my first three games, particularly in my game with Gordon, where they were all stars on disarray/breakthrough. I’m still not sold on them, but they mostly delivered for me. Their relative efficiency disadvantage was definitely on display in my game with Kingsley, though.
4th: LJ Pena
Veers, Boba, more imperial good stuff. I’ve always maintained that LJ is secretly a ringer and no one gets to see it, since he’s always running the tournaments and not participating in them. Well, here you go.
5th: Daniel Lupo
Wonder twins… triple sabs? Lupo is a mad scientist. This list is nasty. I’ve never seen anyone do such crazy and clever things with sabs. Lupo is putting together a guest article on his list and on sab tactics, which should be up on the site shortly.
6th: Luke Cook
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is the Empire counterpart to Kingsley’s high efficiency wonder twins list.
7th: Eric Riha
I think R1H4 is the authority on Palpatine at this point. He runs this thing like a well oiled machine. Palpatine with ten activations is a scary thing to behold.
A slight twist on the standard Luke/Leia build, Gordon threw in a full commando unit for some extra range 3 punch. Oh, and it goes to 11.
